Rouge et Noir Breakfast Cheese
The Original Breakfast Cheese
This fresh cheese is ideal for the morning meal. It is delicately soft, with an old-fashioned ripened butter flavor, making it the perfect compliment to toast and jelly.
Hand made since 1865, this is the original that started it all. Riding on horse drawn wagon to Petaluma, it then boarded a paddle wheeler and headed for the shipping port of Yerba Buena (later to become San Francisco) where it was served as a bar cheese for the dock workers in place of the limited supply of hard boiled eggs, and washed down with a pint of beer.
Stylized after a fresh English cheese typically served with breakfast, and culminated with rich California heritage and tradition that has been passed down through the generations, we’re proud to continue to bring this American original to market today.
